Advocates is committed to protecting the privacy of confidential and “Personal Information” (information that directly or indirectly identifies individuals who may be clients, staff, agents, lawyers, law students, job applicants or others inside or outside the firm). It has always been and remains the policy of the firm to comply with the rules of professional conduct, which impose a duty to preserve and protect confidential client information.

This policy is addressed to parties outside the firm who provide Personal Information to the firm or who visit or use the firm’s websites; www.lawyers-uganda.com and www.lawfirmsinuganda.ug, our social media sites, as well as email messages that we send to you that contain a link to this Statement. This policy also describes how the law firm collects, processes and discloses Personal Information in connection with the provision of legal services.

Generally, the information we collect includes your; Name, company name and title/position. The law firm may share personal information with the following categories of third parties: Third party service providers that provide services to the law firm such as data hosting or software or technology services, Professional advisers, such as lawyers and accountants, Government and/or regulatory authorities, Professional indemnity insurers and Regulators, tax authorities and/or corporate registries and or if we are required to do so by law.

Our law firm will generally keep your information as needed to provide our legal services and to deal with claims. This will depend on a number of factors such as whether you or your company or organisation are an existing client or have interacted with recent client mailings or bulletins or attended recent events. We will retain your information as necessary to comply with legal, accounting or regulatory requirements. Typical retention periods will range from 3 to 10 years.
